Safe Cycling

Remember to bring your
  • Bike
  • Helmet
  • Homelearning books

Mrs Hocking came to our class and talked about road rules. She showed us some really ugly photos of people who had had accidents. We learnt that we must always wear a correctly fitted helmet and to use our back brakes

Today some of us had our bikes checked by Mrs Hocking to see if they were safe enough.

Some of us need to get some repairs done before we go on our trip to the scenic reserve.

We are having fun completeing a safe cycling think sheet, our favourite activity is constructing awesome skate parks.

The Chinese have won 31 golds and New Zealand are 19th on the medal tally.
We are reading journals about the olympics. One of the stories was called Rowing to the olympics it was about aman who practiced a lot and then he won a medal. It was a fiction story but based on real life.

Toy Fair

We read a story called Anna's Coat. She bartered some things and she ended up with a warm red coat.

Our class bought an assortment of toys to barter with. We bartered for five minutes, some of us traded a few times.

There was lots of things to trade Gali traded a race car for 2 of Tom's rugby cards and one of Dylans toys.

It was exciting when we got "new" things to take home.

With our toy trading we are saving money, we are recycling and we are happy with our trading.

World Environmental Day

Tom putting his leaf on our tree

Our environmental tree filled with goals isn't is great?

This morning after Bible and Schools we drafted a class environmental goal in our draft books. We published them on a leaf template , then we cut them out and coloured them.
Because some of our class were away with the chat team Miss Wilsonlet us put our leaves on the tree in the office foyer.
We got some ideas from the tree people website which we joined last week.
Here is the link if you want to have a look at it. (our tree is called Room Eight)

Poetry on Friday

Today Room 8 read a poem called Mrs Midge's fridge. We learnt about personification.eg This is when the post makes a thing into a human, here are some examples from the poem.

"The pizza grew white whiskers."

"The chicken legs got up and walked."

"The cheese put on a furry coat." wow who knew cheese wore a coat??

We found the poem really funny.

handwriting to music

Last term we learnt about switch on and switch offs. Music can be a switch on.
Today Aidan bought along one of his cd's.
We played it whilst we were doing our handwriting.
The music was fast heavymetal/rock and quite loud.
We all had different opinions some of them are.
  • "It was hard to work with and I thought handwriting was suppossed to be quiet"
  • "It was ok but some people got distracted by the music"
  • "It wasn't good because it was hard to work with loud music"
  • "I would like to hear rock music again but others were silly"
  • "I love the rock music and it helped me"

We voted here are the results

Rock music 10

A different type of music 9

No music during handwriting 5

We are going to try some different types of music and different volumes and will have to figure out what to do with people who do not like music whilst they work.

Wonderful Wednesday

HOCKEY

Today we went to the big field after lunch. Wendy from SC hockey was there, she taught us some skills.

Wendy showed us how to dribble and push the ball. First we had to get the correct sized hockey stick. It had to come to our bellybutton

It was fun to learn new skills

Some of us were at Kapa Haka and missed so of it.

SHAKESPARE

It was interesting to learn some history BUT we got a bit frustrated with the websites

We talked about our research skills and have some goals for next time we research.

We liked working in groups, it was fun.

"Cool" cross country

A crispy crunchy cold start to the morning, Miss Wilson had a nice suprise in store for us.
We were being timed as we ran around the school. We are training for the school cross country.
We were puffed as we did our warm down stretches.
After the run we recorded our time, goals and how we are going to achieve our goals.
We are going to
  • Drink water regularly
  • Try our hardest at learning team fitness activities
  • Be active at home and school
  • Remember to bring our running shoes.

We are all looking forward to getting fitter.

Helping our buddies make Mothers days cards

On Friday we went to Room 17 and helped our buddies make Mothers days cards.

Miss Chartris read the instructions from a school journal.

We made flowers from coloured paper. Everyone enjoyed helping and we were pleased with the cards.

We hope the Mothers liked them too.
